What Is Printable Grid Paper?
Grid paper goes by several names — grid paper, graph paper, quad paper and squared paper all describe the same sheet: paper ruled with evenly spaced horizontal and vertical lines that form a regular grid. What makes one sheet different from another is the spacing between the lines, which is why the same term can mean very different paper depending on who's asking.

Not sure which size to pick? If you're doing grid drawing, choose 1 inch — it's the standard used in art classrooms and most grid method tutorials. For math, 1 cm. For technical drawing, 1 mm or 2 mm.
How to Print Grid Paper at the Right Scale
If your printed grid paper comes out the wrong size, the cause is almost always one setting: "Fit to page", "Shrink to fit" or "Scale to fit" must be turned OFF. Your printer defaults to shrinking the page slightly so nothing gets clipped at the margins — which quietly changes every square on the sheet. Print at 100% and the grid will measure exactly what it says.

- Grid measures smaller than expected → scaling is still on. Set it to 100% and reprint.
- Grid measures larger than expected → you may have printed A4 on Letter paper or vice versa. Check the paper size in the dialog and the physical paper in the tray.
- One edge of the grid is cut off → the paper size in the print dialog doesn't match the paper in the tray.
- Lines look blurry or dotted → you're printing the PNG at less than 100%. Use the PDF version instead — it's vector, so the lines never degrade.
PDF or PNG, when? Download the PDF if you're going to print it — vector lines stay sharp at any size and print at exactly the scale you chose. Download the PNG if you're going to use the grid inside another app (Procreate, Canva, Word, Google Docs) — it's a 300 DPI raster image that drops straight into a document or canvas.

▸What's the difference between grid paper and graph paper?
Nothing — they are the same product under different names. "Graph paper" is the more common term in the US, while "grid paper" is more common in the UK and among artists. Quad paper and squared paper refer to the same thing too.
▸Why does my printed grid paper come out the wrong size?
Almost always because the print dialog is set to "Fit to page" or "Shrink to fit", which rescales the sheet without telling you. Set scaling to 100% (see our printing guide above) and check that the paper size in the dialog matches the paper in the tray.
▸A4 or US Letter — which one do I need?
A4 (210 × 297 mm) is the standard in Europe, the UK, Australia and most of Asia. US Letter (8.5 × 11 in) is standard in the United States and Canada. Pick the one that matches your printer tray — printing A4 grids on Letter paper (or vice versa) cuts the grid off on one edge.
