The grid method scales artwork with mathematical certainty: the number of squares never changes, only their size. A 10×10 grid on an A4 sketch becomes a 10×10 grid of 30cm squares on a 3-meter wall — proportions transfer perfectly. ▸How do I scale a mural with the grid method?
Keep the number of grid squares identical on your design and the wall — only the physical square size changes. Divide your wall width by the number of columns to get the wall square size, snap a chalk grid, and transfer square by square.
▸How big should wall grid squares be?
For most murals, 30–60 cm (1–2 ft) squares work well: big enough to draw in, few enough lines to erase later. Fine-detail areas like faces can get a sub-divided smaller grid locally.

If your wall proportions do not match your design grid proportions, wall squares become rectangles and the transfer stretches. Fix it by changing grid divisions or cropping the design — the calculator shows the percentage of distortion.
